Private Register

Privacy versus public misinformation

As mentioned elsewhere, the Scottish Barony Register ("SBR") is a private register, and has no statutory authority. Accordingly, the SBR takes its privacy policy very seriously and does not disclose its entries to third parties. This can be a little frustrating, as there is much disinformation about the identities of Barons in the public domain, which the SBR is powerless to correct.

However, the SBR will attempt to correct any error in the public domain, on request from a registered Baron or his/her solicitor. Equally, the SBR will confirm SBR registration details to third parties such as online lists of Barons, on request by the registered Baron. These services are provided free of charge.
